Consulting mandate Saint Lucia
Introduction of geodata on the Caribbean island
In the period 2018 – 2023 there was a consulting mandate in St. Lucia, which was supervised by our employee Emese Landtwing. The consulting mandate included:
- a one week training for the determination of adequate GCPs and their measurement in the field
- the assessment of stakeholder requirements and their current know-how
- the determination of specifications for data acquisition, products and training
- the international bid for project tenders
- the evaluation of the offers
- the assistance and verification of the company during project implementation
- the verification of delivered results and products
- training and assistance in the use of the delivered products
The project’s goal was the acquisition of bathymetric and topographic LiDAR and imagery data of the island. The intended use-cases were the analysis of natural hazards and infrastructural planning. The expansion of the currently available geo-data, GIS-infrastructure and know how in digital elevation model treatment in general and LiDAR data processing in particular represent interesting challenges. The tropical climate, sea-weed growth periods and vegetation conditions were the most challenging aspects during data acquisition.
